I purchased this bird feeder not only to deter the squirrels but also for entertainment. We only saw a couple of squirrels get ‘whipped off’. They learned quickly. They still try to reach the feeding holes at the bottom of the tub but as advertised, they are not long enough. It is still fun to watch the acrobatics though.This is our 2nd feeder after our 1 st one of 12 years died. Truly works.Works for squirrels but I’ve seen it spin off blue jays too. Holds a lot of seed so you don’t have to fill it often.I had seen videos of bird feeders that literally throw squirrels and chipmunks off with the spinning perch. I found several on Amazon. This one seemed closest to those I had seen and, thought more expensive, it seemed to be the right size. I was a bit disappointed that this is powered by a rechargeable battery, with no way to keep power to it all the time and not place for batteries. After an overnight charge, I put it together, filled it with bird seed (lots of room for seed) and set it out. I was distracted, so I wasn't able to see a squirrel get thrown off, but I found that every squirrel that came to the feeder was making every effort to avoid the ring, and they finally gave up. Now the birds have been around so much that the seed is being eaten up very fast. It's nice to be able to view the seed level. About a week later, I did see a chipmunk get thrown off. It's pretty powerful. It is as if the critters in our yard told each other about this. They don't bother with it anymore. This feeder has simply fixed my squirrel and chipmunk problem. Best feeder by far of any I have had.Keeps squirrels away as long as it's working, but in our experience the power pack has stopped holding a charge, even though we followed the directions for charging duration, etc. We purchased in November and by June the flipper only flips for a few hours instead of 2-3 weeks. It has a warranty, which should cover replacing the power pack, but despite registering the product and submitting a warranty request a week ago, we haven't heard anything back beyond a message indicating we will hear from them soon. I will update my review if they replace the power pack. The cost of this item is way too high for it to work for such a short period of time! We are deeply disappointed.
